lost and found

Yep. We lost one of Erin's puppies. Brown puppy, second in line only to sweater puppy, jumped out of the stroller Tuesday morning on the way home from the park and spent 24 hours hanging out on this fence. (thank you, kind stranger.....you will never know the happiness you have bestowed upon us by rescuing this straggly looking pup!) Don't worry. This hasn't stressed me out in the least. It only took me tearing apart the house once...I mean twice....I mean three times....an 8 pm drive to the park and subsequent search of said park (yep, I was wearing pjs)...a 6 am run to the park to scour the sidewalks....a careful consultation with grandma on the route they took to and from the park....and finally a sloooooow drive accompanied by all three children over the final (different) route to locate brown puppy. True and utter joy. I could have cried. Erin, will you ever know how much I love you?

grandma and grandpa

My parents were here for a few days to shower the children with love and attention and to provide their mother with some sanity. We are always thrilled to see them come and sad to see them go. Kate, who has been begging us to plant flowers all spring (with all of the intensity and whiiiiining and passion of a three year old) was so happy to finally get her hands dirty. Erin was not so happy to get her hands dirty!

rub-a-dub...

....one baby in the tub. In an effort to distract Annie from her ears and teeth, I treated her to her first bubble bath. Since she puts everything in her mouth, I'm pretty sure that she consumed lots and lots of bubbles! She didn't seem to mind too much, though, and was a pretty happy (and clean) baby.

deceptively delicious!

For my birthday, my sister-in-law gave me the Deceptively Delicious cookbook....a guide to hiding fruits and vegetables in your kid's food. So far I've only used it as a (fantastic!) reference for making Annie's baby food, but yesterday morning the girls and I made some lovely banana muffins laced with....cauliflower! As you can see, they gobbled them up. Amazing. I felt sneaky and clever (insert evil laugh). What I really need, though, is a cookbook about how to hide meat in your children's fruits and vegetables. Or how to hide ANYTHING in a box of macaroni and cheese. Yep, that's a cookbook that would make millions.

annie update

Well, after 2 weeks of fussiness (lots) and 2 weeks of 2 different antibiotics, we were back at the pediatrician's office yesterday evening with a fever of 103 and one sad, miserable little baby. Turns out the ear infection in one ear had progressed to an ear infection in 2 ears and was non-responsive to antibiotics. Who knew THAT could happen? Annie got a double dose of tylenol (what?! who knew such an amazing thing was possible?!) and a big ouchy shot of an antibiotic in her leg. She is fussy and uncomfortable today but the fever is down (so far) so we'll keep our fingers crossed. Poor buddy.

To add insult to injury, Annie got her first two teeth today!

We had to wait 20 minutes in the office after the shot to make sure she didn't have a reaction. She fell asleep on my chest so I got to snuggle her the whole time. In the busy chaos of our days this is something I never get to do....it was heavenly. So there was one good thing in our long miserable day!
